A DETAIL OF THE LIVING ROOM
An old fashioned credenza
The Credenza, or buffet, is the most characteristic piece of furiture in the kitchen, with a fascinating history behind it, and roots in a long-ago past. It gives the house a cozy, warm atmosphere, and is as important in the dining room as the table and chairs.
The credenza originated in the region of Emilia Romagna in the 17th century as a buffet table in the banquet halls of the nobility as a low, simple chest on which the food was laid out before serving it.
In the course of the ages it has evolved into various forms, acquiring doors, display cases, and drawers in which to place dishes, glasses and kitchen utensils, and in which to conserve food.
Its charm and usefulness has never faded, and it is still a key element of every kitchen, where it serves to display our best dishes, silverware, ceramics, and fine wines.
